As conference rooms are getting updated with wide screen projectors and LCD displays we are finding that the input devices (laptops, PC’s and Macs) don’t necessarily play well with the new technology. Each display or projector has what’s known as “native resolution”. A WXGA widescreen projector may have a native resolution of 1280 X 800 and a new LCD display can have 1920 X 1080 native resolutions. Most of these products support multiple non-native resolutions but not necessarily the resolution a clients’ computer may be outputting. There are a number of solutions that are being utilized during the changing of technologies from analog to digital. The graphic card in the PC or Laptop being used may simply need to be changed to the correct resolution. Simple, but not always realistic.
Our clients just want the room to work. Something we are recommending until our clients are ready to invest in a complete digital upgrade is adding a simple scaler device which takes multiple input resolutions and scales that signal automatically to the native resolution of the display. It works and doesn’t require a complicated and expensive upgrade.
